Great Gatsby

Chapter 3-4

Nick was invited to party. Gatsby's mansion was packed with revelers when Nick arrived. Very few of them seem to be invited guests, and even fewer had met Gatsby face to face. Nick went to Jordan Baker, who was even more casually bitter than usual because she had recently lost a golf tournament.
Nick and Jordan decided to find their mysterious host, and wandered into Gatsby’s library. There they met a short, somewhat drunk man. He was amazed by Gatsby’s books. Later, as Nick and Jordan sat outside watching the party, Nick stroke up a conversation with the man sitting next to him. This person was the mysterious Gatsby.
Then he left to take a phone call. Later, he sent his butler to ask Jordan Baker if he may speak with her privately. When she finished talking to Gatsby, she told Nick that she had heard some important news, but didn’t tell it now. Nick left the party.  Then we knew that he began to date with Jordan Baker.
One morning, Gatsby invited Nick to lunch in the city. Gatsby told Nick about of his past. He claimed to be the son of wealthy parents from the “Midwest” town of San Francisco, to had graduated from Oxford, been a noted jewel collector in Europe and a decorated hero in the war. He even showed Nick a war medal, and then told Nick to expect to hear a very sad story about him later in the afternoon.
At lunch, Gatsby introduced Carraway to Meyer Wolfsheim. She was an infamous gambler, and claimed responsibility for fixing the 1919 World Series. Nick began to suspect Gatsby of underworld dealings, due to his association with the sinister Wolfsheim.

They happened to run into Tom Buchanan, and Nick introduced him to Gatsby. Gatsby appeared highly uncomfortable in Tom's presence and quickly left them without giving an explanation.
Then Nick met Jordan. She told him that when Gatsby was a young man, he had a passionate romance with Daisy Fay, who is now Daisy Buchanan. During the war, when Daisy was not yet twenty, Gatsby met her while he was stationed in Louisville and the two of them fell in love. Her family prevented Daisy from leaving and marrying Gatsby, and one year later she married Tom Buchanan. Gatsby never fall out of love with Daisy and bought his giant mansion in West Egg to be across the bay from her. He had hoped that the magnificent house would impress her and win back her love. Jordan added that Gatsby has requested that Nick invite Daisy over to his house for tea.
