Great Gatsby

Chapter 5

After returning from the city, Nick encountered Gatsby late at night on his front lawn. Gatsby asked Nick to take a swim in his pool. Nick agreed to do it. Gatsby then offered Nick the chance to join probably illegal, business venture. Nick is offended at Gatsby trying to buy him off and declined his offer. Gatsby and Daisy treated each other formally at first. Nick left them alone for half an hour. When he returned they were blissfully happy. Gatsby then took them on a tour of his mansion. Nick reflected that over the years Gatsby had remained faithful to their love; while Daisy had given herself to another man she never loved in exchange for the security of wealth. They moved from the house to Gatsby’s grounds. Next, Gatsby got one of his hangers-on to play the piano for the three of them. But Nick left them.
